Forks W

Last year my grandson Daniel went with me on one of my road trips. With no particular destination in mind except to visit the OR and WA coastal places of interest. Leaving the Hoh National Park and traveling north we found ourselves in Forks and decided to see some of the places of Twilight fame.

Forks WA

Posted by PicasaThe restaurant in the first pic is the one used in the movies. The next pic is of  Bella's house. I don't know whether it was the Bella raspberry lemonade that Daniel had with his lunch or what, but he hasn't been the same ever since....

La Push

Quileute totam pole in front of  a restaurant.
The harbour at La Push, and some whimsical Indian art. I hear that the Twilight series has given this little town quite an economical boost.

LaPush - Quileute Indian Reservation

When visiting the Olympic National Park on the Washington coast, I drove through La Push, WA of recent "Twilight" movie fame. I confess that I read the books and was curious about the places they were based on. As you can see by the gray skies they do get a lot of overcast days. The first 2 pics are of La Push across the river with seastacks. The 3rd pic is the forested road into La Push, and the next pic is of the American and Tribal flags.

Flapping in the Breeze

This is a palette knife painting I did for the Virtual Paintout challenge for August which is Prince Edward Island. I tried to find something unusual, as much of the island is green trees, grass, roads, etc. I wanted to depict something different. When I saw this slightly irreverent scene, I couldn't pass it up.

Impasto Passion

DanaMarie's challenge this month are these lovely yellow roses with orange edges. Since I have been trying different painting techniques - lately palette knife painting - I decided to try this technique on these flowers. For better or for worse it is what it is.... but I like this technique really well, so I will continue to practice and learn what I can. Critiques welcome.

I did a few Plein Air palette knife landscapes while traveling this summer. I will post a couple here.

Waterton and the Canadian Rockies

Alberta, Canada is known as the wild rose province. This picture foreground and the close up below it show some of these lovely flowers, which among other colorful flowers, grows everywhere one looked.

A beautiful cirque lake in Glacier National Park along the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Olympic Rain Forest

This is typical of the lush scenery of this amazing forest. I took this picture on a hike into the beautiful back country of the Olympic Pennisula.

Sunset on Lake Quinalt, WA

This lake is one of my favorite vacation spots. In this sunset shot, the heavy mist in the air rendered this scene in deep shadow with brilliant silver and gold reflection in the water.
