Ensigns

Painted this from a challenge photo supplied by Lee Brown,
on his blog A Day Not Wasted, of an Italian building.
The photo had much more detail in it,
but the flags intrigued me, so I focused
mainly on them and the blue door.
I also liked the architectural detail around the door,
and the pink stone of the building.

Chief Crazy Horse

Painted for DPW's Statue Challenge. For the painting,
I used acrylic like water colors, on watercolor paper.
6" x 8.5"
$50.

This is the reference photo I used, which I took at the
Chief Crazy Horse Museum in South Dakota.

This statue is a prototype of the enormous statue
that is being carved into the granite of the mountain (below).

The Garden Lamp

Another small work painted from my photos,
of the lovely gardens in Anacordes, WA
that I took last summer.
I went for a walk at dusk, with my daughter.
The sun was setting and the light was low
 and caused long shadows.
The garden lamps came on and the combination
of the two 'lights' created a lovely ambiance.

Portlandia Landmark

Painted for DPW's Landmark challenge.
A painting of one of Portland's most famous landmarks - destinations. This old weathered plywood sign announces a most unusual and interesting business - the VooDoo doughnut shop. They make and serve 100's of varieties of doughnuts (from the ordinary, to the unusual and weird); along with services such a marriages performed by the proprietors. People stand in lines daily to buy these sweet and sometimes outlandish confections. My favorite is the maple bacon bar.

Thirty Days Challenge

These are the paintings I did for Leslie Saeta's 30 Days challenge.
Only 25, with one still on my easel.
But I enjoyed this challenge very much,
and learned a few things about myself as an artist along the way.
Thanks to Leslie for this opportunity to have fun, grow and
work with other artists on a truly challenging project.
