This is a place where the fall colors

are so brilliant and riotously beautiful,

with a seasonal creek that runs though their bright reds, oranges and golds.

  The fallen leaves float down this placid stream.

Rocks in a Stream

Valley of the Blue Moon

Usually the term "once in a blue moon" 

indicates something rarely happening, unusual or extraordinary. 

In traveling, every once in a while, I'll see something so lovely, 

with such a beautiful ambiance, that even a photo cannot capture 

what the eye and mind perceive. 

This valley with the spectacular moon is one of those places.

Wolves in Winter

I painted this last year from a photo taken in British Columbia.
I always felt the scene needed something,
so I decided to add the gray wolves.
I love wolves and am happy that they have been
reintroduced to the US wilderness.
I haven't seen any since I was a child,
They are very shy and reclusive, but on
recent camping trips to Wyoming and Colorado
I have heard their wolfsong in the night.
It is so amazing and beautiful to listen to.

Early Morning on the Steens Mountains

These are the beautiful wild horses of eastern Oregon.
They are Kigers, or more commonly known as Mustangs -
descended from the Spanish horses brought here centuries ago, by early explorers.
They come in a variety of colors, both bold and muted,
some with dark or striped stockings;
and long manes and tales.

Wolf Memories

I love wolves.
This is my first attempt at painting them.
I haven't seen many wolves in the wild, but as an adult, I have heard their song in the night quite a few times when camping.
As a child, when camping, I had to make a late night run to the privy, and as I stepped out of the tent, I saw a wolf drinking from the nearby creek as his buddies stood by. I remember standing quietly watching them until they moved on into the forest.
This painting is from that memory.

Fischers Mill

The Old Mill is a painting from a photo I submitted for the DPW challenge.

This is one of my attempts to paint the old mill. I was never truly happy with any of them. But felt I could live with this version. After seeing all the wonderful interpretations submitted, I began to feel like a coward for not submitting one of my own. So this is it, such as it is.
