Winter's Sunset Field

I enjoyed painting this for Dana Marie's Artistic Sentiments
challenge. She is one of the few artists that frequently posts
landscapes instead of still lifes, which I appreciate.
This particular landscape offered the challenge
of the purple shadows and golden light of sunset
on the bare trees, bushes and grasses.
Another beautiful Oregon landscape.
(She has introduced another challenge blog called Rendition Me This,
where the challenge is to paint in another artists style.)

5"x7" acrylic on canvas panel

Wy'east Sunset

Wy'east is the Native American name for Oregon's Mt. Hood.
I can see this magnificent dormant volcano out of my east facing studio window.
I have photographed it numerous times through all seasons, weather, and time of day.
This painting reveals the rosy glow that the setting sun
casts upon the ever present snowy peak.
