Bird on a Twig

 

 

​It's late summer, the leaves are turning

and the Queen Anne's Lace dots the field of yellow grasses;

and this bird seems to be contemplating his journey south

as he perches atop a twig.

Captured this pretty little Titmouse

flitting about the branches of a fir tree.

Bluebird with Blossom

 

 

A harbinger of Spring,  a pretty ​Bluebird in a pear tree,

   filled with spring blossoms, and bathed in golden sunlight.

 Is the blossom she has in her beak,

 something she likes to eat, or something lovely for her nest?

​A beautiful red cardinal

sits in a star pine tree all fluffed out

to keep warm as the temperatures drop

 with the first snow fall.

Peacock

Painted for DPW Peacock challenge
from a photo provided.
The challnge for me, was to change the background
and render the peacock in a whole new light.

Towhee in Winter

This little fellow visits outside my studio window.
Everyday he hops about a planter on the porch deck
looking for bugs. He is so pretty and friendly,
I decided to paint him as the 5th entry in the 30 days challenge.

Morning Glory

My tube of Cadmium orange was the inspiration
for this painting. It is a color I rarely use,
but decided to try out its rich vibrancy more often.
This is the second in a series of art with words
as part of the composition. (Not sure how many I will paint).
Entered this one in Dana Marie's Rendition Me This challenge
entitled "Dreams and Wishes".
The saying is a quote from Paul Gaugin. It says:
"Seek art in nature by dreaming in the presence of it."

Chickadee in Apple Tree

Much of my summer travels was in the state of Washington
where they have many apple orchards.
This painting is a homage to the many yummy apples
I sampled while motoring and painting plein air.

One With Water and Air

Painted this for Dana Marie's Rendition Me This challenge "Canard".
We are to paint a 'rip-off' of the challenge painting,
similar but with our own spin on it.
I wanted to bring out the metaphysical environment
of this duck's life through the water, air and colors.

A Summer Garden

A purple finch sits amid the lovely blues and purples
of the Wisteria, and the bright red roses,
of the garden filled with summer blooms.

The Turquoise Pool

I painted this for Dana Marie's Artistic Sentiments's challenge - Turquoise Dreams,

 from a photo she provided 

of a rich deep turquoise pool with a rocky background.

She asked that we add something to the painting.

I chose a white heron taking flight.

I also decided to paint mostly with a palette knife, 

for the texture achieved on the rocks and bird, and smoother on the water; 

with only a small amount of brush work.

I am thinking of painting this on a larger canvas.
