Stratus Blue Roses

Painted for DPW's Escape the Snow challenge.
Let me explain this painting and how it fits the challenge theme.
First of all, I like snow and don't find I need to escape it.
Second, when I can't paint plein air (outdoors) I paint still lifes indoors.
Third, painting itself is my way of getting away from it all.
I find myself caught up in what I am doing
and that in itself is a form of escape, so to speak.
So my 'escape' was to do this painting.

Bees and Blooms

This is an oil over acrylic painting of a corner in a flower garden.
I like the formal white post on which grow the blue/purple wisteria.
The red roses offer a splash of contrast.
As I was working on this painting, I noticed a hum and looked
and saw several bees moving about from flower to flower.
Originally I did not add them, but I was never happy with this painting
until in reworking the picture I added the bees.
Now it feels right.

Rose Princess

Princess loves the scent of flowers, especially roses, or the colors, or maybe both.
Her favorite place in the garden is among the pink roses
and other blossoms and flowers..
Occasionally she brings petals, buds or fallen roses as gifts.
They are placed in a jar and used like potpourri.

Roses on Antique Linen

I originally began this painting for DPW's White on White challenge
presented by Ann Feldman. But somewhere in the process of the painting,
the muse took over ,and the white roses and white bowl took on the color you see.
I liked it better this way and decided to keep it this way.
She did allow about 15% color, but I think this exceeds that number...
