Blue Ice

Painted for DPW's 'World Polar Bear Day' Challenge.
This wondrous animal lives in a glacial blue world,
which I tried to depict in the blues of his icy habitat.
But unfortunately, my camera and/or computer
has calibrated the blue as a cobalt,
when in reality, it is a gorgeous shade of glacial turquoise.
(Despite all my efforts, to date,
I have been unable to find a way to correct the problem.
If I do, I will change out the picture.)

Floating on the Clouds

Painted for DPW's Monet-ish Challenge
of a pond with water lilies and clouds reflecting.
The challenge was to merge sky and water
into a somewhat abstracted painting.

Antique Tractor

Painted this early 1900's tractor
from a photo I took at Cottonwood Canyon State Park.
It was once a sprawling ranch acquired by the state
in north central Oregon along the Deschutes River.
The park still has the old barn and windmill,
as well as several ancient farm implements.
I didn't want this painting to be a landscape with tractor,
so I used a sketch approach to highlight this wonderful old rusty tractor.
I really like this look.

End of the Day

Painted this from a photo I took
from my motel room in Burns, Oregon last summer.
This scene played out across the road
and was so lovely - the colors in the clouds
and the light across the pasture and trees.

This is Our Land ... 2

Another painting of the Oregon SE high desert
from a photo I took while traveling through last summer.
I love the landscape there, with it's lovely colors,
and wonderful light.
Often the sky would have dramatic cloud formations.

"This Land is Our Land...."

Painted this from a photo I took last summer
while traveling through S.E. Oregon's beautiful high desert
from the Nevada border to Burns.
The scenery is often so spectacular that photos and paintings
can hardly capture the scope and actual beauty
in such a confined space as a canvas.
While traveling I was often reminded of the words of a song
which I used as the title.

Vintage Camping

When traveling,  I sometimes see and admire,
(and secretly covet), these vintage travel trailers.
I have often thought of finding one, and fixing it up
to use on my road trips. Maybe someday....

Storm Clouds

Painted for DPW's "Skying" challenge.
I used a photo I took of a summer storm
moving over the Grand Tetons with Jackson Lake
 in the foreground.
I particularly liked the way the low lying clouds
wrapped themselves around these majestic mountains.

Tulips on My Windowsill

These pretty purple tulips grow on my windowsill
from forced bulbs in an oval glass vase,
they bring a bit of color and springtime into my studio.

Magic of Spring

The groundhog has spoken for an early spring,
so this is my contribution to DPW's Groundhog Day challenge.
Spring has a magical quality about the season.
I wanted to depict this element in a whimsical way
and yet maintain the beauty of the time of year.
Dragonflies are a particular favorite of mine,
as they flit about the serene floating lily pads and  lily flowers.
