Water Lilies

I originally painted this scene from a photo Dana Marie offered for a challenge
on her Artistic Sentiments blog during September.

I always felt that it wasn't quite finished, so I revisited it.
I added the water lilies, enhenced the underwater lily pads,
brightened the white light and clouds reflections.

Little Miss Sunshine 2

Painted for DPW's "Simplify Challenge".
The challenge was to take a busy photograph
and simplify it.
(This is a redo - I worked on the face a little, especially the eyes.
I was never happy with the face, so for better or worse, this is her new look.)

What's in YOUR cupboard?

I opened my daughter's cabinet of colorful Fiesta Ware,
and immediately saw a bright and cheerful painting.

What's the Message?

Painted for this weeks DPW's "Composition" challenge.
We were asked to paint any part of a larger photo,
taken of an old European town.
I chose the this little scenario.
The pretty lady is the focal point,
but the two gentlemen, are too busy texting to notice her,
are the secondary point.

Autumnal Lilies

The vivid colors of fall are not reserved for trees alone.
Flowers share the brilliance, as do the exaggerated colors of these variegated red calla lilies.

Morning Has Broken

Revised edition of the Texas Blackbird painting.
I wasn't happy with it. So I added the pond
(blackbirds like water) and the tree on the left,
and changed the name (looking at the morning sky and blackbirds,
I was reminded of the song).

Blackberry Thicket in Fall

Here in Oregon, blackberries grow wild everywhere.
There are native blackberries; and Himalayan, a non-native invasive species
which although produces luscious berries,
is very fast growing causing thickets of tangled thorny vines.
