30 in 30 Collage

Painted these during Leslie Saeta's 30 in 30 Challenge.
Not quite 30 paintings, but almost.

Winter Green

The Clackamas River runs a beautiful emerald green in summer,
but in winter the ice and snow cause it to be a lovely mint shade.
I have several photos of the river in it's various seasonal dress,
this is one of my favorites.

French Lavender, Too.

This is the second half (of the photo)
 of the DPW "Relaxation Challenge".
The colors were stronger as this half was in more shadow.
I liked the contrast of the white basket against the darker purples of the French Lavender.
Still loving the scrollwork on the chair and the bright blue background.

French Lavender

Painted this for DPW's "Relaxation Challenge"
from the photo of French Lavender
provided by Dreama Tolle Perry as something that relaxes her.
What relaxes me is painting. So I painted the lovely Lavender.
I particularly love all the pastel colors in her photo
and tried to keep that look.
I also liked the pale blue wrought iron chair the basket rested on.
So French country...now that's a place I could really relax in.

Bridge Over Multnomah Falls

Painted this from one of my many photos
of beautiful and spectacular Multnomah Falls.
It was hard to choose an angle and how much to include,
as these falls are three levels each with it's own pool at the base,
and fall over 300' total. I decided on this perspective
because I wanted to show all three levels of the falls
and the old and lovely bridge which spans the second pool.
The falls is spectacular in any season. I chose late summer/early fall.
The rocks and foliage surrounding the falls
 presents from a misty atmosphere
which creates a fairyland like image.

Intense Beginning

Not being a morning person,
it is rare that I get to witness a sunrise so spectacular as this.
 But I did.
One morning when I was on a road trip, I wanted to get an early start
and was treated to a glorious scene.
I have never forgotten how beautiful the kaleidoscope of colors were,
that were painted across the clouds and sky and reflected in the lake.
This is painted from that memory so it is part realism,
part impressionism and part fantasy.

Springing Forward

Sometimes during the gray days of winter
our thoughts turn to the brighter days of spring
with all the lovely flowers and warmer weather.

Black Sand Cove

Along the wild and scenic Oregon coast,
there are little hidden places that make the coastline so special.
Here I have painted a beautiful little cove
ringed with high golden bluffs.
The sea has a silvery look from the black sand,
which I believe comes from volcanic pumice.

Wild and Rocky

Where the Oregon coastal mountain range meets the ocean,
the shoreline is wild, rocky, and extremely beautiful.
The occasional beach appears offering lovely sandy stretches.
The weather is often cloudy with gray skies and gusty winds
blowing the surf up and over the rocky headlands.
Creating misty layers that diminish into the clouds.

Windblown

The Oregon coast
is the most wonderful place to be a 'storm watcher".
The strong winds race through the trees
and fling the foamy ocean caps into the air.

Colors of the Sea

The sea is not just blue or green or gray
but quite often many different colors.
Depending on shadows and light,
sand and seaweed,
sky, clouds and sunlight.

Ribbon Game

Don't know what the game is
that these sweet little Dutch girls are playing,
but I loved the old sepia photo (I added the color),
the traditional costumes and the wooden shoes.

Thea

Painted this for DPW's challenge "Paint your parent".
My Mother's family emigrated to the US,
by way of Java, from the Netherlands.
She was just a young girl when they left their homeland.
Although they quickly became "Americans" in every sense of the word,
they left us grandchildren with a strong sense of our Dutch heritage.
Therefore, I chose to paint my Mom as a little Dutch girl
surrounded by what we most often associate with her culture and heritage:
klompen (wooded shoes), lace bonnet an apron, windmill, and tulips.
I remember wearing an apron like this when I was little. It had been my mothers.
Her Father had a pair of klompen in his office.
I purposely faded out her face into the background
to signify that she is no longer a child,
and this is just a beautiful, loving memory.

Fof Rolling In

This sailboat is at anchor
against the fog rolling into the harbor
 as the afternoon fades.
The pastel colors evoke the cold
and mysterious light of a foggy evening

Alpine Glow on the Mountain

Painted this from a photo I took of Mt. Hood
aglow with the pinkish hue of sunset.
I particularly liked the location of this shot
because of the secondary point of interest
in the seasonal creek running through this farmer's land.
The gray skies had tiny traces of pink
 threaded through the rain clouds.

Scotch Broom

Painted this little vignette from one of my photos
taken on country lanes and by roads during my many road trips.
This depicts bright yellow scotch broom,
brought to the US by European settlers.
Now growing everywhere in the PNW
among the summer faded grasses
and other trees and shrubs.

Tetons in Winter

One of my favorite Nat. Parks - Grand Tetons NP.
Painted from a photo I took one year
when I went there at the end of winter.
Visited both parks (Yellowstone, too)
with the beauty of a snowy landscape and lakes frozen over.
I always liked the simplicity and quietude of this scene -
kind of Zen like.

Winter River

of the Clackamas River in the Cascade foothills.
The weather has warmed up (a little)  - no snow left :(.

MIsty Coast

The great diversity of landscape along the Oregon coast
makes it a wonderful place to photograph and paint.
Here along the central coast, is a mosaic of beach grasses
and shallow tide pools, nestled among the sand dunes.
A creek finds its way into the waters of the vast Pacific ocean.
Low hanging clouds give a misty, watercolor effect to the horizon.

Old Fence Posts

Under summer blue skies,
the pretty faces of little yellow field daisies
keep company with the old fence posts which line the corn field.
Painted from one of my many photos taken year round.
A little touch of summer to 'warm' up the cold winter days.

After the Dance

Gorgeous silver silk and golden high heeled shoes,
just made for a night out on the town, dancing the night away
but kicked off upon arriving home.

(Not happy with the image - the background color is actually
a luscious deep turquoise that I just love,
and not the cobalt blue the camera and/or computer registers.
Am going to try and rectify this color problem and will repost if it happens.)

Purple High Tops

On a shoe kick,
so I am painting a few of my favorites.
Don't usually buy a lot of shoes,
but I always loved these purple high tops.
 They're comfortable and funky.
