Steller Jays in Winter Apple Tree

We have many Steller Jays
that seem to stay around at least in early winter.
These two are sitting in the bare apple tree,
with only snow on it's branches.

Coastal Pine

Another tree painting for DPW "Tree" challenge.
Along the wild and beautiful Oregon coast,
quite often a lone tree will be tenaciously hanging onto a rocky outcrop.
It's branches sculpted by the wind,
and the trunk bent by the strong gusts
that come from the ocean storms.

Purple Twilight

Another work painted for DPW "Tree" challenge.
I was drawn to the large 'sentinel' tree
which seemed to be guarding the river.
The many shades of purple added a special ambience to the scene.

5" x 7" oil on canvas

available on DPW auction

Lone Pine

Painted for DPW "Tree" challenge,
from a photo provided by Laurel Daniel.
I cropped it and chose the landscape shape.
Kept the fence and enhanced the clouds a bit.
 A fun painting to do.

Windblown

The Oregon coast
is the most wonderful place to be a 'storm watcher".
The strong winds race through the trees
and fling the foamy ocean caps into the air.

available on DPW auction

Orchard Ladder

Grandpa's old wooden orchard ladder
comes in handy for harvesting the fruit higher up in the tree,
that can't be picked easily from the ground.
Another 'backyard' plein air painting.

This is the second plein air painting of Smith Rock
with the Crooked River which runs through the rocks,
that I did during my summer roadtrip.

Valley of the Blue Moon

Usually the term "once in a blue moon"
indicates something rarely happening, unusual or extraordinary.
In traveling, every once in a while, I'll see something so lovely,
with such a beautiful ambiance, that even a photo cannot capture
what the eye and mind perceive.
This valley with the spectacular moon is one of those places.

Bright, Sunshiney Day

The early morning sun shines bright and golden,
scattering specks of pink light,
as it rises behind the lush green of summers foliage.

through the clouds, of a deep blue sky.

Towhee in Winter

This little fellow visits outside my studio window.
Everyday he hops about a planter on the porch deck
looking for bugs. He is so pretty and friendly,
I decided to paint him as the 5th entry in the 30 days challenge.

6" x 6" acrylic on canvas panel

$50.

Four Calling Birds

What do you do if you miss the deadline of one challenge?
You revise a bit and enter it in another challenge.
I originally intended this painting for Dana Marie's Artistic Sentiments challenge,
but missed the deadline, so I added a fourth bird and entered it
into DPW's Twelve days of Christmas challenge.

6" x 6" acrylic on canvas panel

$50.
