Under the Sea

 

 

Painted for daily paint works underwater challenge.

I tried to capture the beauty and wonder of the seascape

beneath the seas surface -

bright coral, intense plant colors and iridescent fish,

all captured in the muted light coming from the seas surface.

Sailing the Milky Way

 

 

​A sailboat sails under the night sky,

filled with the stars of the Milky Way,

carried along by the soft sea breezes.

Conch Shell

 

 

​The beautiful golden conch shell

 is just one of many treasures from the sea

 that float up onto the surface of the turquoise waters

 and eventually finds its way to the shore.

 

(Not sure why, but the blue in this painting registers as a cobalt,

when it is actually a beautiful phthalo turquoise. I will try

to correct this if I can)

Colors of the Sea

 

The sea is not just blue or green or gray

but quite often many different colors.

Depending on shadows and light,

sand and seaweed,

sky, clouds and sunlight.

Storm Moving In

 

 

Painted for DPW's Stormy" weather challenge.

I love painting dramatic skies.

This challenge photo has it all: rain, wind, blowing clouds,

 even a smattering of sunlight reflected in the water and on the clouds.

I later added the lighthouse because I felt the little island

was telling me it wanted one.

Sea Glass Float on the Beach

On the Oregon coast, glass floats are frequently seen on the shore
along with shells, driftwood and other treasures of the sea left on the beach. 

The local artist glass blowers will often leave their beautiful versions of these glass orbs on the sand for some lucky beachcombers to find.

Fishing Boats on the Beach

When Van Gogh lived in Arles, he took a trip to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

on the Mediterranean Sea, where he made several paintings
of the seascape and town.

I painted this from a photo of one of these
