Lemons and the Red Teapot

When I lived in a southern clime, I had citrus trees in my garden.
This memory was the inspiration for this painting for DPW the citrus challenge.

Pittock Mansion

Today, the Pittock Mansion is a museum and tourist attraction in Portland.
It was once the home of a founding citizen who made his fortune in lumber.
I made a few minor changes to simplify the structure, which is quite extravagant.

Cherry Tree

Cherry trees in bloom are a Washington DC iconic sight.
This tree was painted for the DPW challenge
and for Bil Guffy's Virtual Paintout challenge.,
from the trees in bloom along Ohio Blvd. in DC.
I tried to use Carol Marines directive of 'one stroke' at a time
and load with a new shade/tone between each, using a #6 bright.
Didn't quite make the single stroke per load,
but came close and will continue to work on
simplifying with this technique.

Rose Princess

Princess loves the scent of flowers, especially roses, or the colors, or maybe both.
Her favorite place in the garden is among the pink roses
and other blossoms and flowers..
Occasionally she brings petals, buds or fallen roses as gifts.
They are placed in a jar and used like potpourri.

Canoes and a Summer Storm (an upload test)

I had repainted some of this Zorn palette painting
- adding a cabin and some deeper shadows and other darker highlights.
Still tweaking it, but used it to test whether or not I could upload
a photo to my blog after adjusting the template.
Thanks to Nan Johnson who sent me a link with suggestions
for remedying the problem I was having.
And it worked.
Next I have to try an upload from Picasa,
where I store my photos. And that works now too!
Thanks again Nan!

Blogger Woes

Last month my computer crashed and I had to buy a new one. Ever since I have been unable to upload any photos of my paintings to my blog. I have tried several different ways - but nothing works. Either I get an error 503 alert or 'try again' or 'the site is down'  box. This has been going on for two weeks. I have gone to Google, which is next to useless. In doing so, I have discovered other people are having the same problem with no recourse or solution.

I am thinking ending this blog and opening a new website.  This seems to be the only way to resolve this problem.

Lake House Nocturne

" This was painted for a DPW challenge - 'A view from a cabin window'.
on a lake with a dock and boat.
There are wolves in the area, and their song is often heard at night.
The light in the forest is often 'green'
and it was this special glow that I wanted to achieve."

Season's Greetings

Used the Zorn palette of  Cad. red,
yellow ochre, ivory black and titanium white,
to paint this winter scene.
I live in a rural area
and saw this lady getting or sending her mail
and knew I wanted to paint her
and her iron mailbox.
