Thea

Painted this for DPW's challenge "Paint your parent".
My Mother's family emigrated to the US,
by way of Java, from the Netherlands.
She was just a young girl when they left their homeland.
Although they quickly became "Americans" in every sense of the word,
they left us grandchildren with a strong sense of our Dutch heritage.
Therefore, I chose to paint my Mom as a little Dutch girl
surrounded by what we most often associate with her culture and heritage:
klompen (wooded shoes), lace bonnet an apron, windmill, and tulips.
I remember wearing an apron like this when I was little. It had been my mothers.
Her Father had a pair of klompen in his office.
I purposely faded out her face into the background
to signify that she is no longer a child,
and this is just a beautiful, loving memory.

Fof Rolling In

This sailboat is at anchor
against the fog rolling into the harbor
 as the afternoon fades.
The pastel colors evoke the cold
and mysterious light of a foggy evening

Alpine Glow on the Mountain

Painted this from a photo I took of Mt. Hood
aglow with the pinkish hue of sunset.
I particularly liked the location of this shot
because of the secondary point of interest
in the seasonal creek running through this farmer's land.
The gray skies had tiny traces of pink
 threaded through the rain clouds.

Scotch Broom

Painted this little vignette from one of my photos
taken on country lanes and by roads during my many road trips.
This depicts bright yellow scotch broom,
brought to the US by European settlers.
Now growing everywhere in the PNW
among the summer faded grasses
and other trees and shrubs.

Tetons in Winter

One of my favorite Nat. Parks - Grand Tetons NP.
Painted from a photo I took one year
when I went there at the end of winter.
Visited both parks (Yellowstone, too)
with the beauty of a snowy landscape and lakes frozen over.
I always liked the simplicity and quietude of this scene -
kind of Zen like.

Winter River

A plein air painting of the lovely emerald green waters
of the Clackamas River in the Cascade foothills.
The weather has warmed up (a little)  - no snow left :(.
A little detail work done in my studio.

MIsty Coast

The great diversity of landscape along the Oregon coast
makes it a wonderful place to photograph and paint.
Here along the central coast, is a mosaic of beach grasses
and shallow tide pools, nestled among the sand dunes.
A creek finds its way into the waters of the vast Pacific ocean.
Low hanging clouds give a misty, watercolor effect to the horizon.

Old Fence Posts

Under summer blue skies,
the pretty faces of little yellow field daisies
keep company with the old fence posts which line the corn field.
Painted from one of my many photos taken year round.
A little touch of summer to 'warm' up the cold winter days.

After the Dance

Gorgeous silver silk and golden high heeled shoes,
just made for a night out on the town, dancing the night away
but kicked off upon arriving home.

(Not happy with the image - the background color is actually
a luscious deep turquoise that I just love,
and not the cobalt blue the camera and/or computer registers.
Am going to try and rectify this color problem and will repost if it happens.)

Purple High Tops

On a shoe kick,
so I am painting a few of my favorites.
Don't usually buy a lot of shoes,
but I always loved these purple high tops.
 They're comfortable and funky.
